Wowzers! What a day at Albuquerque Dragway yesterday.
First, I’m proud of everyone for hustling up and going along with changing the race day from Sunday to Saturday. We were rewarded with a spectacular New Mexico spring day!
A couple of notes before I share the results:
*Robert Covell resurrected “No Quarter” a race car that had been racing in Albuquerque over 30 years ago! And…..it ran 10’s ! Great job buddy!
* Ethan Lawrence brought out his viper red GTX. What an unbelievably gorgeous car. Ethan we hope to see more of you.
*Jerry Holder broke a rocker on the Bodacious Buick and couldn’t fix it in time for eliminations. Hang in there Cowboy. Everybody loves Bodacious!!
* Joel Pitre brought his beautiful 67 Chevelle out and it’s a TUFF tough pony boy.
*Cole Shaffer doing his best John Force imitation flew in, jumped in his Firebird and laid down an 11.50….far cry from those 13s!
*Rick Ulmer worked his mopar over during the winter and he be fast! Not to mention the dead sexy art work on his doors!
*Mike McCallum debuted his 64 Comet….awesome car! He has some bugs to work out but we all know “the Champ” will get er done.
*Will the Thrill Rogers also got that Cougar fast running mid 11s….here kitty kitty…..
So we had some new members join us and what great new blood we have!
OK….i better get to race results…
We started with 21 cars and with Jerry breaking we fielded 20. After two rounds we had the fearsome fivesome left.
Joel Pitre drew the bye.
So……it was Sid Vicious McDaniel vs Doug The Legend Anderson. Doug and his 64 Comet with a 427 4 speed vs Sid and his unbelievable winning streak!
What a match up! Both cars launched wheels up but Sid pulled past Doug and got the win!
In the other quarter final it was Dale Schroeder and Orange Crush vs Sleepy Brad Shaffer and Great White. Ford on Ford match. Dale nailed the light Shaffer had his jammies on and Dale moved on!
Semis- Dale Schroeder drew the bye. Setting up Joel The Kid Pitre vs Sid Vicious(wearing a Sid Vicious shirt I must add) Big block Chevy vs big block Plymouth. It was like an old west shootout between Billy the Kid and Marshall Dillon. Crowd is on their feet. Joel a bit slow on the light but so is Sid (well, slow for Sid but quick for mere mortals). Joel out ahead then Sid then Joel then Sid then…..holy mother of drag racing the Kid knocks out the king!
Final- Dale Schroeder and his Orange Crush Wagon vs Joel Pitre and his Major Shaker Chevelle. Greatest Generation vs Generation X …..
We have a bumper to bumper race down the track but old school rules and Dale takes the win in Albuquerque!!!
Congrats Dale….you still have the magic buddy!!
Great day, great people!
Pics on the web site soon…..see you in Vegas!
